At Bodegas Ostatu we have always said that wine is made in the vineyard, and it is the vine that is the actual protagonist. Ostatu’s Singular Wines are a full reflection of this, wines made from unique single vineyard plots of land that carries us to that terroir which they come from… originals.
Today the last grapes from our vineyards fall into our baskets, the 2021 harvest is over. But always, when something ends, something new emerges… Let us introduce you the new vintages of these marvelous plots of Rioja Alavesa.

Escobal 2019
El Escobal 2019 is the new vintage of the vineyard called “El Escobal” or also known as Marbella. This red wine made of 100% Tempranillo, certified organic, harvested in an excellent vintage, provides the following nuances:

– It stands out for a cherry color with violet reflections.
– On the nose, it evokes red and black fruit, where we also find light citric hints and touches of floral and balsamic aromas that round the whole.
– In the mouth, it is sweet, with great personality and volume.
Laderas 2016
Laderas 2016 is the new vintage of our vineyard “El Portillo”. Located at an altitude of over 650 m, very close to the Toloño-Cantabria mountain range, this vineyard, planted in 1968, has a predominance of limestone soil. In this case, 2016, a vintage rated as very good, contributes to the freshness of this wine remaining intact after 5 years of maturation:
– It has an intense, violet cherry color, with aesthetic concentration.
– On the nose, very red fruit-forward (cherries, red berries, unripened plums) and a soft floral touch. It also has a deep balsamic background and a sweet spice that reminds of toffee.
– In the mouth it generates a savory fruit density, providing a sensation of freshness and a high acidity presence. It has volume, structure, and sweet, polished tannins that amplify the sensation of fleshiness. In addition, it finishes with a mineral key of terroir, good projection, and long life.
Lore 2018
Another of Ostatu’s singular wines with a new vintage is Lore 2018. A perfect blend of Viura and Malvasia from the “Valcavada” vineyard, harvested in a vintage considered to be very good, in which each variety contributes what is necessary to find the balance transformed into wine:
– A pale, bright color with greenish and golden reflections.
– It offers aromas of green fruits, such as apple and pear, and white flowers (hawthorn and camomile), with a balsamic character and a very fine and elegant expression of the barrel.
– It is fresh and balanced on the palate, oily and with dimension and length. Well balanced with spicy notes from the barrel, fruity intensity, and warmth.
Valdepedro 2020: the new wine in this vintage of Rioja Alavesa wines
Ostatu’s family of singular wines grows with… Valdepedro! A wine already presented last year with a very low production that was not available for sale until now.
Valdepedro 2020 is the new wine that has been made with grapes from the “Valdepedro” plot itself, 100% tempranillo, with sustainable cultivation and it is organically certified. Moreover, it does not contain added sulfur. In its vinification, the time spent in wood is reduced and ovoid concrete tanks are added instead. Impossible to be described in words, but we could describe it as follows:
- Attractive cherry red color, very bright, medium depth.
- Aromatic variety of fresh red fruits such as cherries and wild strawberries, flower petals.
- A marked character of carbonic maceration.
- On the palate, it is notable for its smooth entry and velvety mouthfeel throughout. Sweet, with personality.
